Leadership Council

The Leadership Council is the governing body for Plymouth, making policy decsions on behalf of the congregation between the annual congregational meetings every January.

  • Bob Sturtevant, 

    Board Chair and Personnel Committee

    Bob Sturtevant is a forester for Colorado State University where he teaches, and assists in research and forest management work. A 23 year member of Plymouth, he has served on the Adult Education and Stewardship Committees and now assists with the Environmental, World Missions and Sound ministry teams. Bob and his wife Nancy enjoys working with college students, international development and travel.

  • Dianne Stober, 

    Vice Chair and Budget and Finance Committee

    Dianne is a longtime member of Plymouth who came to us from Central Congregational UCC of Atlanta, Georgia. She has two children, Eli and Hannah. Hannah is in school at Harvey Mudd in Claremont, California and Eli is finishing high school. She is married to Ben, and together they as a family enjoy their black lab and playing and participating in Bluegrass music. 

  • Mary Freese, 

    Clerk of Council and OUtreach and Mission Liaison

    Mary and, Ken, joined Plymouth in 2009 when they moved to Fort Collins from New Mexico. Her career began teaching English in the states and ESL in Truk, Micronesia. After spending several years as a stay-at-home mom, she earned an MBA and CPA. She worked for a number of years in public accounting and finance and taught accounting on the college level. She has served on the Social Concerns and Stewardship committees, heads the Mission ministry team, and sings in the choir. She also loves to knit and quilt and is part of those ministry teams. Her family includes three daughters and four grandchildren, all of whom bring great joy to life.

  • Sharyl Haas, 

    Treasurer, Audits/reviews Committee, and Trustees Liaison

    Sharyl has been a part of Plymouth for over 9 years, and assumed the role of Treasurer in February 2015. Sharyl considers her hometown to be Idalia, Colorado where her great grandfather homesteaded and her family still has a farm. Growing up, Sharyl spent her summers in Idalia helping with all aspects of the family farm. She’s still a part of the farm “crew” and makes many trips each year to the farm. Sharyl has a degree in Business from the University of New Mexico and spent many years in the banking industry in several different roles. After she had children, Sharyl began volunteering in schools and other non-profit organizations and has mace a full time job out of volunteering. Pictured with her horse, Monty.

  • Marilu Theodore, 

    Member-at-Large, Board Support, and Deacons Liaison

    Marilu is a longtime member of Plymouth with her husband George. Marilu has served before on leadership, on the Board of Deacons, and in many other positions throughout the church. When not at Plymouth, she enjoys travel, time with family, and photography (particularly photographing birds). Marilu is a published photographer and is well known for her work photographing Fort Collins. 

  • Linda Preston, 

    Member-at-Large and Stewardship Liaison

    Linda and her family have been members of Plymouth for nearly thirty years. During that time Linda has served on numerous committees and short term projects including Sunday School Teacher, Adult Education, Deacons, Women's Fellowship, and provided kitchen support for many funerals, weddings, and celebrations. Currently she is a member at large on the Plymouth Leadership Team.

  • Elaine Kim, 

    Member-at-Large and Christian Formation Redesign Team

    Elaine Joined Plymouth in Fall of 2014 and comes from a predominantly Presbyterian Christian upbringing. She grew up in California and moved to Colorado in 2010, and has enjoyed Colorful Colorado ever since. Elaine is currently serving as an at-large member of Leadership Council, and is also involved with Christian Formation as her young daughter learns and explores what it means to be a progressive Christian.

    Evangelism Committee Chair, and Congregational Life Liaison

    Nic joined Plymouth with his partner Adam (soon to be husband) in 2013, coming from a Catholic upbringing but having left the church for a long period of time following high school. He moved to Fort Collins from Tucson, AZ 10 years ago and is a graduate of CSU. Nic is currently in management at a bank in Longmont, and enjoys the small town life and local brewery scene that Fort Collins has to offer. Nic and Adam have a full house with a fish tank, Albert & Armond the parakeets, Mercedes the cat, and Zoe the dog. Nic is currently serving as the young adult at-large member of the Leadership Council, and facilitates the Sunday Night Small Group along with Adam following the Plymouth 3.0 service.

  • Barry Beaty, 

    Member-at-large, Nominating Committee, and Planned Giving Committee

    Barry is a retired CSU Professor of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology. His major research efforts were in prediction, prevention, and control of mosquito-borne virus diseases. He and his wife, Caryl, are originally from the small farming town of Richland Center, Wisconsin. Following graduation from the University of Wisconsin in 1976, he served on the faculty at Yale University. They moved to Fort Collins in 1982. They have two daughters: Meaghan, who runs a shrimp microbiology laboratory in Florida, and Lyric, who is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin, and two granddaughters. Barry has served on the Capital Campaign and the Stewardship Board.

  • The Rev. Hal Chorpenning, 

    Senior Minister

    Hal has been Plymouth's senior minister since 2002. Before that, he was associate conference minister with the Connecticut Conference of the UCC. A grant from the Lilly Endowment enabled him to study Celtic Christianity in the UK and Ireland in 2007 and 2008. Prior to ordained ministry, Hal had a business in marketing communication and corporate communications first in the Silicon Valley and then in Boulder. He has two sons and a golden retriever, and is married to the Rev. Jane Anne Ferguson.
