Plymouth Staff
After serving as associate
conference minister
with the Connecticut Conference of the UCC, Hal returned to Colorado in July 2002 as
Plymouth’s senior minister. Having recieved a grant
from the Lilly Endowment, Hal spent his sabbatical in summer 2008 in the UK and
Ireland studying music, worship, and community in the context of Celtic
Christianity (you can visit his sabbatical blog at www.halsabbatical.org). He came to ordained ministry as a second career, following
stints in university administration and owning a public relations practice. Hal has two sons, Cameron and Christopher, an overly
friendly cat called Chester, and a golden retriever named Chumley, who often
accompanies his dad to work. He attempts to fly fish on the Poudre and Big
Thompson Rivers locally and loves the Wind River in Wyoming.
Originally a Southern belle (having lived in South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia), Sarah moved to Fort Collins with her husband, Keith, 4 years ago. While her main area of study has been English (B.A. and M.A. in English literature), she has long had a fascination with religion and theology. Aside from the Christian history and religion classes she took in college, she did an internship in Youth and Young Adult Ministry with the Virginia Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and taught high schoolers in Slovakia as a Lutheran volunteer. When not teaching the occasional composition class at a local college or spending time with the most-amazing-ever children and youth at Plymouth, she loves adventuring, drinking tea, and reading.
When Mark was growing up in Southern California, he never imagined that he would end up ranching goats near Fort Collins, CO. His education took him to Texas, Chicago, and Denver, all in urban centers. He served as pastor for Metropolitan Community Churches in Fort Collins, Cheyenne, and Rapid City. His partner of 17 years now, Ivan Loy, wanted a couple of goats for their acreage. But after the first two came three more who were bred, and things took off -- this season they had around 40 kids born. In between running goats on summer weed control land, and ever passionate about education, Mark managed to finish his D.Min., doing his dissertation "Hearing the Eunuch's Children" on preaching in LGBT communities. He recently received full ministerial standing in the UCC, and loves his job as Director of Adult Education at Plymouth.
Barb
has been doing administrative work since she was 16, so she knows her way around a busy(!) office. She was raised in the "Ice Box" of the nation,
camping (summer) & fishing (summer and winter), but currently lives much
warmer in Loveland with her 4-legged companion, Buster, with whom she enjoys
spending a "movie (lazy) day" once in awhile. She watches Broncos
games, enjoys cooking (sometimes doing both at once), spends lots of time with family and loves taking day/weekend
trips to the mountains!
