We Welcome You to Worship
Sunday worship is a central experience in our church, though we live out our faith seven days a week. Our schedule is:
September through May,
9:00 am Worship with weekly Communion
10:00 am Education for all ages
11:00 am Worship with Communion the first Sunday each month
On the third Sunday of each month, we have a contemplative service in the style of Taizé at 6:00pm followed by a fellowship meal.
Childcare for infants and children 0-5 is available in the nursery for all services.
In the summer, we have a single 9:00 am service. Also, there is no Taize during the summer.
What to Expect When You Visit
When you visit Plymouth on a Sunday morning, expect to be greeted warmly at the door. If you have a question about which way to go (sanctuary, coffee, adult/youth/children's education classrooms, accessible restrooms, etc.), please feel free to ask the greeter! There are also directional signs on the walls to help you find your way.
Our worship services are a combination of traditional liturgy and welcoming informality. We use inclusive and expansive language for both God and humanity in all of our hymns and prayers. The New Century Hymnal, from which we sing most of our songs, includes old favorites as well as new inspiration for our musical experience of prayer. The choir and special guest musicians offer pieces from classical to jazz to spiritual to Taizé - we try to incorporate many styles into our time of prayer and worship.
As a progressive congregation, we take the Bible seriously but not literally. That means you will hear a number of interpretations of sacred scripture - from the pulpit, through spoken prayers and in our written meditations. Hearers are always always a part of the conversation as well, and you are welcome to "talk back," offer your own insights and questions about the text during a regular small group gathering on Monday mornings.
We also recognize that there are very few intergenerational opportunities that remain in our society. For this reason, we encourage all ages to attend worship together. The sound of infants "talking" and small children shuffling in the pews reveals the presence of God in joyful ways! We have children's activities available (crayons and coloring pages that relate to the sermon) and Children's Bibles in the pews. We also provide childcare (0-4 years old) for families that prefer this option.
Through a combination of silence, song, spoken prayer, scripture, sermon, giving, Communion and blessing, we come together to seek God in community. Welcome! We hope you have a grace-filled worship experience among us.
